چکیده
Dekan The structure of consciousness " The interaction and interference of multiple brain rhythms often gives rise to the appearance of 'noise' in an electroencephalogram. This noise is the most complex type known to physics and reflects a metastable state between the predictable behaviour of oscillators and the unpredictability of chaos " When I read this statement first time during the initial phase of my study I wanted to know how exactly an electroencephalogram works, how an oscillator oscillates and wondered about the possibility of things existing in a metastable state. However after 4 years of studying with endless nights of analyzing neurons, hours of cloning and avoiding forgetting any food in the Department fridge, I best of all learned what chaos means. And believe me it is predictable.

The calcium sensor Copine-6 regulates spine structural plasticity and learning and memory
Hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) represents the cellular response of excitatory synapses to specific patterns of high neuronal activity and is required for learning and memory. Here we identify a mechanism that requires the calcium-binding protein Copine-6 to translate the initial calcium signals into changes in spine structure. We show that Copine-6 is recruited from the cytosol of den...
متن کاملAllicin attenuates tunicamycin-induced cognitive deficits in rats via its synaptic plasticity regulatory activity
Objective(s): To illuminate the functional effects of allicin on rats with cognitive deficits induced by tunicamycin (TM) and the molecular mechanism of this process. Materials and Methods: 200–250 g male SD rats were divided into three groups at random: control group (n=12), TM group (5 μl, 50 μM, i.c.v, n=12), and allicin treatment group (180 mg/kg/d with chow diet, n=12). After 16 weeks of a...
متن کاملInvolvement of voltage-dependent calcium channels in synaptic plasticity of the rat visual cortex
In this study, involvement ofvoltage-dependent calcium channels in LTP of responses of rat visual cortex slices was analyzed. Field potentials including EPSP1 and EPSP2 from layers II/III were recorded through stimulation of layer IV. Whereas nifedipine, a L-type calcium channel blocker (L-VDCC), did not considerably affect the LTP of responses, but Ni2+, a relatively selective blocker of T-typ...

متن کاملSpike timing dependent plasticity: mechanisms, significance, and controversies
Long-term modification of synaptic strength is one of the basic mechanisms of memory formation and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. This idea was purposed by Hebb to provide a basis for the formation of a cell assembly. Repetitive correlated activity of pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neurons can induce long-lasting synaptic strength modification, the direction and extent of whi...
